The Young Hunters' visit to Kitzbuhl in Austria is unrecorded, although like Lavery, Waterlow and Sargent, John Young Hunter may well have been swept along by the current enthusiasm for Alpine holidays, following the rapid development of tourism in the Alps with the construction of the Jungfrau railway. Apparently shortly after the date of this painting the town was almost totally destroyed in an avalanche.
